Law 15/2003, modifying Law 6/1993, of 15th July, regulates the waste defined as commercial waste, such as “municipal waste generated by the activity of retail and wholesale commerce, hotels, bars, markets, offices and services. This category can also include, with a view to its management, waste originating in industry that are similar to municipal waste in accordance with the provisions of this law.”

The PROGREMIC estimates that commercial waste generated in Catalonia makes up around 15% of municipal waste.
