Glass

Glass accounts for 8% by weight of the municipal waste generated in Catalonia, according to data in the PROGREMIC 2001-2006. It is an easily recoverable material. Glass can be reused or recycled conserving many of its original properties. However, we must distinguish between packaging glass and flat glass for proper recycling.

The type of glass normally used is made by mixing silica and potash or soda with small mounts of metal oxides which lend hardness and optionally, colour.
