In light of the need to provide
information on and explain what lies behind recycling, what can
be done with the waste we generate? How can it be turned into a
resource? The Agència de Residus de Catalunya of the Department
of the Environment and Housing provides loal authorities with an item
to complement campaigns to prompt selective waste collection being
run in this area throughout Catalonia: an exhibition of 5 elements
that illustrate the process of transforming the 5 fractions of selective
waste collection - paper and cardboard, packaging, organic fraction,
glass and non-segregated fraction- plus an element with a talking interactive
game, also intended to foster attitudes that promote prevention.
With this proposal, the Agència de
Residus de Catalunya is providing everyone with a tool that helps
to communicate the basic ideas behind selective waste collection
through play and fun, and encourages public participation. |

Objectives |

- To provide an element that is highly attractive both for
children and adults and works as an advertisement for the acts
among which it is set.
- To encourage citizen participation in the selective collection
of household waste and attitudes that foster the prevention
of waste generation.
- To provide a playful and festive yet educational resource
to municipalities that wish to use it.
- To inform children how waste is separated at source.
- To reinforce the way to achieve the landmarks established
in the new management model.

Technical description |

- Each exhibition comprises five elements in the
shape of circular containers and an information panel, which
are differentiated from each other in their subject matter and
content:
- 1 element on the selective collection of glass
- 1 element on the selective collection of paper
and cardboard
- 1 element on the selective collection of tins
and packaging
- 1 element on the selective collection of organic
fraction
- 1 element on the selective collection of the
rest fraction.
- Each container features a series of products
made from the recycled materials that are collected in the respective
container.
- 1 element that both provides information on
prevention and features a touch sensitive screen that displays
an interactive game on the proper management of waste.

Circular modules
- The unit consists of 5 circular display modules,
each 160 cm in diameter and 90 cm high. These may be dismantled
into two semicircles and come with wheels.
- The cylindrical modules are lit from the inside
using fluorescent lights. The total electrical power necessary
for all the fluorescent lights in each display is 360W, or in
other words the requirements of a “normal” 220v,
1,800W plug. The non-segregated fractionmodule comes with an incorporated
DVD player, the power requirements for which should be added
to the above.
Triangular module
- The unit comprises 1 triangle-based module that
measures 0.80 x 185 cm in height and requires 220v power for
the connection of a computer and a screen.
Recommendations
- 1 independent electrical circuit for the fluorescent
lights of the 4 circular elements (organic, glass, packaging
and paper)
- 1 independent electrical circuit for the rest
fraction module
- 1 independent electrical circuit for the triangular module.
- The exhibition must be set up under a roof.
- It may not be set up and taken down on the same day.
