A mobile collection centre is an adapted collection vehicle that goes around different neighbourhoods and/or towns on set dates.
There are several types, but the one used by the Waste Agency of Catalonia is a self-loading container with different compartments for ordinary waste (glass, light packaging, etc.), bulky and special waste. To operate this type of collection, the local authority must have a truck with an articulated hydraulic arm.
Mobile collection centres can be adapted to back up the service in towns with a permanent facility or to bring the service to towns that do not have one. Mobile collection centres operate under a permanent centre to which they take the waste collected.
One clear advantage of mobile collection centres is that the same facility can serve more than one town, which gives rise to economic savings. |
