Features of collection centres

There are different types collection centres. Which type is most suitable for a town depends on the population and population density. Based on this, four types of collection centre have been defined:

Basic

 2.000 - 5.000 225 m²
Type A 5.000 - 10.000 625 m²
Type B 30.000 - 70.000 2.275 m²
Type C 150.000 4.500 m²

Collection centres generally have the following elements:

  • Perimeter fence and gates
  • Reception office
  • Large container areas
  • Small container areas
  • Shed
  • Hazardous waste storeroom
  • Roads
  • Signposts
  • Landscaped area

Optionally, collection centres may also have:

  • Waste break-up area
  • Environmental education classroom

A basic requirement of collection centres is that they be staffed.
