Collection models

Local authorities with responsibility for municipal waste management must define the most suitable collection model for their municipality or group of municipalities. The waste collection models currently applied in Catalonia can be classified by:

  • Type of waste segregation model:
    • 5 fractions
    • Minimum waste
    • Mixed waste
  • Type and location of the collection system:
    • Surface containers (pavement and drop-off areas)
    • Buried containers
    • Door-to-door
    • Pneumatic

Each segregation model is combined with one or more collection systems according to the features and preferences of each municipality.
