The ECOPARK is a unit that allows energy and fertiliser to be gained from the municipal waste organic fraction, which includes two lines of treatment:
a) Treatment of the selective waste collection organic fraction, in order to evaluate the organic material to obtain quality compost.
b) Treatment of the remains fraction (where there might still be organic material) in order to:
a. evaluate the organic material to achieve biogas (which may be used for energy, to produce electricity) and a digested material that will later also be composted.
b. stabilise and improve the characteristics of the waste (reduce humidity, the fermentability of the organic material, reduce the volume) before its final disposal.
c. separate certain materials that might be evaluated (glass, metals, plastics, etc.)
The remains fraction treatment installations, such as the Ecoparks, are intended to reduce the amount of refuse and improve its characteristics, and also to comply with European legislation and allow the use of the end systems to be minimised (controlled landfills or energy evaluation plants)
