In Catalonia, productive activities caused in the order of 5,600,000 tons of waste in the year 2000, of which industry recycled 63.5 %.

In order to promote waste recycling and achieve the objectives of the new Industrial Waste Management Programme in Catalonia (PROGRIC) 2001-2006, the Centre català del reciclatge (CCR) of the Junta de Residus (now the Agència de Residus de Catalunya) has organised this technical meeting of "research, development and technological innovation applied to waste recycling", which is intended to give a reply to the following questions:

  • Why carry out research and technological innovation in waste recycling in industry?
  • Who does it or can do it?
  • How do we finance these projects?
