The buy of environmentally correct products and services, recycled products for instance, is a specific action to improve the environment framed on the path to sustainable development.
The volume of public administration buys justifies the initiative to promote the buy of recycled and/or recyclable products to contribute to reinforcing the role of the administration in encouraging these products and services' market and in serving as a model for public and private buys and the citizens too.
In order to promote environmentally correct public purchasing strategies among the local and territorial administrations in Catalonia, the Department of the Environment (now Environment and Housing) and the Centre català del reciclatge (CCR) of the Junta de Residus (now the Agència de Residus de Catalunya) organised the following work meetings in 2001:
