Pesticide products are those intended to combat all possible illnesses and plagues affecting the crops (herbicides, insecticides and fungicides). Once the pesticide has been finished, the waste left in the packaging must be suitably dealt with.

The inadequate use of pesticides and the uncontrolled elimination of empty packagings may have negative consequences on the environment and agricultural medium.
 Regulations
Law 11/1997, on packaging waste, and Royal Decree 782/1998 developing the law and specifically Royal Decree 1416/2001 of 14th December concerning packagings of waste pesticide provide for the creation of Integrated management systems (SIG) or Deposit-refund system for packaging (SDDR) to deal with the empty packagings that have contained pesticides.
 Authorised Integrated management system (SIGFITO)
Since 2002, in Catalonia the Integrated management system SIGFITO AGROENVASES, a non profit-making entity participated in by different collectives, has been authorised to periodically collect the pesticide packaging waste

SIGFITO periodically withdraws the empty packagings that have contained pesticide products (flasks, bottles, plastic drums, bags, etc...) and makes sure they are environmentally managed. This collection is made through the established collection points, which are mainly the sales points of pesticide products and agricultural co-operatives, at no additional cost to the users of the service.

For good user management when placing the packagings at the collection points, it is recommended that the packaging be rinsed up to 3 times to make best use of the product and reduce its hazardous content.
