Operations to transfer
WEEE and subsequently treat it must be
carried out in such a way that they prioritise
the reuse of the entire appliances and
their components.
As far as the reuse of WEEE is concerned,
social insertion companies (SIC) must
play an important role in the management
models that producers use to achieve compliance
with the established objectives of reuse,
recycling and recovery of WEEE.
The Agència de Residus de Catalunya
therefore collaborates with social insertion
and work placement groups by awarding
aid for waste projects. Among the initial
awards (Resolution MAH/2159/2004, of 27th
July) several projects have been chosen
that envisage the management of WEEE (awareness
enhancement workshops, new recovery initiatives,
preparation of disassembly manuals, and
collection of material at tips, etc.).
At the same time, in order to prompt
solidarity, co-operation and development
and promote access to the Information
Society and to new technologies by the
least privileged sectors of society, on
24th April 2003 the Government of Catalonia
created the Solidary and Sustainable Information
Society in Catalonia, SISOSCAT, which
is sponsored by:
Ministry of Social Welfare and Family
Affairs
Ministry of Universities, Research and
the Information Society
Ministry of the Environment and Housing
Ministry of Employment, Industry and
Tourism
LOCALRET and the Catalan Association
of Telecommunications Engineers
SISOSCAT strives to obtain waste computer
materials in order, where possible, to
repair them for reuse or for use by other
people with fewer demands or different
demands than the original users.
